Voces desde todas partes del mundo y dentro de los Estados Unidos se están uniendo para pedir al Presidente Obama un cambio de la injusta política estadounidense hacia Cuba que lleva ya más de cincuenta años. Uno de los puntos claves de este creciente debate es encontrar una solución al caso de los 5 Cubanos presos en Estados Unidos por más de 15 años. Dos de ellos: René y Fernando, ya se encuentran en su Patria luego de haber cumplido íntegramente sus injustas condenas. Actualmente permanecen en prisiones de EE.UU. los antiterroristas cubanos Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino y Antonio Guerrero, Por ellos el Comité Internacional por la Libertad de los 5 Cubanos está organizando la III Jornada de Denuncia y Solidaridad “Cinco Días por los 5 Cubanos en Washington, D.C.”, del 4 al 11 de junio de 2014.
Las actividades incluirán:
- Conferencias de prestigiosos panelistas sobre el Caso de los Cinco, y las relaciones EEUU-Cuba.
- Eventos Culturales.
- Manifestación frente a la Casa Blanca para demandar la libertad de los Cinco, de los presos independentistas de P.Rico y otros presos políticos y el fin del Bloqueo genocida de EE.UU. hacia Cuba.
- Visitas al Congreso y al Senado junto a Parlamentarios de América Latina y Europa.

La III Jornada reunirá a personalidades de EE.UU, Canadá, América Latina y Europa. Juristas, parlamentarios, religiosos, escritores, intelectuales, líderes sindicales y activistas se darán cita en Washington para demandar la libertad de estos hombres que desde 1998 permanecen cárceles de Estados Unidos por defender a su país del terrorismo.
Han sumado sus voces a la III Jornada personalidades como el académico Noam Chomsky, el actor Danny Glover, la escritora Angela Davis, la poetisa Alice Walker, el periodista y escritor Ignacio Ramonet, el teólogo y escritor brasileño Frei Betto,el ex Coronel del Ejercito de EE.UU. Lawrence Wilkerson, el autor y politico Tom Hayden, el ex Jefe de la Sección de Intereses de EEUU en Cuba, Wayne Smith, el abogado Jose Pertierra, la co-fundadora del Sindicato de los Trabajadores del Campo Dolores Huerta, el ex Presidente de la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas, Padre Miguel D’Escoto , el curador y fundador de la Fundación Brownstone Gilbert Brownstone, el abogado Martin Garbus , el antropólogo y periodista mexicano Gilberto Lopez y Rivas, el ex Fiscal General de EE.UU. Ramsey Clark, la Alcaldesa de Richmond, California Gayle McLaughlin, el abogado Peter Schey, los autores canadienses Stephen Kimber y Arnold August, el ex Obispo de Detroit Thomas Gumbleton, el historiador y escritor Piero Gleijeses, el autor brasileño Fernando Morais y muchos otros.

René González, y Fernando González fueron liberados por cumplimiento de condena. Los Cinco deben estar en Cuba, junto a sus familias y su pueblo.

London: Voices for the Five and Cuba Solidarity CampaignDear friend,
More
than 2,000 people attended the International Commission of Inquiry and
associated events for the Cuban Five in London earlier this month. Full reports,
photos and films will be available soon, but in the meantime here are some of
the highlights.
As
well as two days of Commission hearings, associated events included a
parliamentary meeting, international concert and closing dinner.

Over
300 people from 27 countries congregated in London’s Law Society on 7-8 March to
hear moving and powerful testimony from 20 expert witnesses into the case of the
Cuban Five. You can read a more detailed report from the Commission
here.
René
González was due to be a key witness but was denied a visa on the day he was due to fly from Havana by the
British government. Despite this further injustice René was able to give his
testimony to the Commission via Skype and received a standing ovation from
delegates in the hall when he appeared on the screen.

Three
Commissioners presided over six sessions which heard compelling evidence from
Cuban victims of terrorism, the families of the five, US legal experts and
members of the defense team, and Amnesty International. The Commissioners’
Preliminary Conclusions can be read here, and their final report will be published on
the Voices for the Five site within a few weeks.
Voices
for Cuba Concert and associated events
As
well as the central events of the Commission hearings there were a number of
other important activities including a parliamentary meeting, concert and
closing meal.
 US author Alice Walker and ten British actors during the spoken word
section of the Voices for Cuba concert dedicated to Five and their families
Almost
2,000 people attended a spectacular concert at the Barbican Centre on Friday
evening featuring stars of the Buena Vista Social Club Eliades Ochoa and Omara
Portuondo , Omar Puente’s Cuban jazz quintet, and spoken word from US author
Alice Walker and ten British stars of stage and screen. Standing in for her
father, Irmita, daughter of René González, moved many in the audience to tears
with an emotional speech.

The
evening ended with a fabulous and impromptu rendition of the beautiful Cuban
anthem ‘Guantanamera’ which saw thousands standing, dancing and singing along as
Omara Portuondo sang the words "Volveran" and "They will return"
as she left the stage.
The
weekend ended with a closing meal at Congress House, which was addressed by
British trade union leaders, and also by René González via a specially prerecorded message for the event.
