Luego de dos suspensiones de las audiencias debido a que la evidencia probatoria de las imputaciones no había sido entregada a ninguna de las partes del proceso judicial, se realizará dicha audiencia en medio de numerosas irregularidades que ha experimentado la investigación totalmente acaparada por el Ministerio Público.
Esta audiencia tiene como objetivo la formalización de las acusaciones contra cuatro de los ocho detenidos al día de hoy: Mariano Díaz Chávez (Mayor de la Fuerzas Armadas), Sergio Rodríguez (Gerente Técnico y Ambiental de la empresa DESA), Douglas Bustillo (Exjefe de Seguridad de la empresa DESA) y Elvin Heriberto Rápalo (supuesto sicario)
La demanda de la acusación privada que representa a COPINH y a la familia de Berta Cáceres tiene como objetivo dar una mirada más abarcadora a la imputación de la que presenta el ministerio público y así demostrar que el asesinato no es un hecho aislado que se consumó por intereses particulares, sino que forma parte de un ataque sistemático dirigido a COPINH y a quien fungía como coordinadora general.
Este crimen que articula estructuras criminales en las que se entremezclan empresa privada, agentes del Estado, organismos financieros internacionales y sicariato criminal, forma parte de un plan de desestabilización a nuestra organización.
Es importante recalcar que a un año y tres meses del vil asesinato de la compañera Berta Cáceres Flores y a pesar de la fuerte denuncia nacional e internacional y la movilización permanente, la acusación del ministerio público está llena de falencias e irregularidades, que ahora se conocen con la apertura de una parte de los expedientes y con la asistencia a las anteriores audiencias.
El COPINH hace un llamado a todas las organizaciones nacionales e internacionales para acompañar en la denuncia y acción esta audiencia que forma parte de un proceso de un proceso lleno de irregularidades que pueden llevar el caso a la impunidad.

Calling on national and international organizations: Preliminary hearing in case of Berta Cáceres set to begin

The preliminary hearing for one of the most renowned human rights cases in Latin America in recent memory – the case of Berta Cáceres - will take place this Wednesday June 7th, in the First District Court in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The hearing comes after two previous continuances due to failure to provide evidence to all parties to the judicial process and in the midst of numerous irregularities in the investigation, which has been under the exclusive control of the Attorney General.
The purpose of this hearing is to formalize charges against four of the eight men detained thus far: Mariano Díaz Chávez(Major
in the Armed Forces), Sergio Rodríguez (Technical and Environmental
Manager for the DESA corporation), Douglas Bustillo (former Security
Chief for the DESA corporation) and Elvin Heriberto Rápalo (the supposed
hitman).
The purpose of the case brought by COPINH and the family of Berta Cáceres is to take a broader look than the case brought by the Attorney General and thereby demonstrate that the assassination is not an isolated incident carried out by individual interests but rather part of a systematic attack against COPINH and its general coordinator.

structures along with private corporations, state agents, international

deplorable assassination of our sister Berta Cáceres Flores and despite
heavy national and international pressure and ongoing mobilization, the
Attorney General’s investigation is replete with deceit and
irregularities, which are coming to light as a portion of the file is
opened to supplement information from previous hearings.
COPINH
calls on all national and international organizations to join us in
taking action and echoing our outcry, since this hearing is part of a
process full of irregularities that could lead to the case ending with
impunity.
With
the ancestral strength of Berta, Lempira, Mota, Iselaca and Etempica we
raise our voices full of Life, Justice, Freedom, Dignity and Peace!
